'The preliminary consultation stage of the 'On the Verge' project provided us with an admirable brief which led us to attempt to celebrate the place and the people. Children from the school had taken part in the consultation and we felt it appropriate to have them represent the people (or their future). Photographing them was charming and enjoyable but chaotic so we ended up collaging each face onto the image. In the process felt we were getting to know them quite well because their characters show up so luminously in their faces.'
